Quotes to Consider

Prof. Engelsma: "Much of the disobedience of the churches today to the Word of Christ on marriage, divorce, and remarriage is due to their refusal to permit such hardships among their people. The churches are busy avoiding the sufferings that belong to discipleship of Christ. They make the life of the Christian easy, not only in marriage but also in other areas. They see the affliction of the people in their admittedly painful circumstances, and they say, ‘Jesus would never want anyone to have such a hard life.’ Then they quickly change Jesus’ Word so that He says what they think He should say. This is a temptation also for us" (Marriage, the Mystery of Christ and the Church, pp. 138-139).
